Another attraction of Nordsternpark since the BUGA (national flower show) in 1997 is the Blue Pump station Gelsenkirchen-Horst. The station drains great areas of Gelsenkirchen day and night and provides protection against flood - and dry cellars for the inhabitants of Gelsenkirchen.
It is one of hundred pump stations in the geological depression of Ruhr District caused by coal mining.
